Common questions

Do patients need to download an app?
No. The questionnaire opens in any mobile browser when patients click on the provided link. Nothing needs to be installed on their phone or yours. They may install the patient app to receive appointment reminders and access other features, but it is not necessary to complete the questionnaire.
How does DryCheck handle patient data and POPIA?
Patient data is stored securely and your practice remains the data controller. DryCheck acts as the processor. Full POPIA-compliant terms are included with every subscription.
What is the DECI questionnaire?
The DryCheck Eye Comfort Index is our original 12-item dry eye screening instrument. It covers four domains — ocular sensations, visual disturbance, activity impact, and triggers. It was created by analysing OSDI, SPEED, and other leading dry eye questionnaires to deliver a modern, accurate pre-consultation score.
Can my staff use it on the reception desk tablet?
Yes. DryCheck works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop. Many practices set up a dedicated waiting room tablet, but the link approach (patients open with their own phone) requires no hardware investment.
How long does the questionnaire take?
Typically 5–10 minutes. The 12 questions use simple pill-button responses — patients don't need to type anything.
What if I want to cancel?
Cancel any time from your practice admin panel. No contracts, no cancellation fees. You keep access until the end of your billing period.

Built by a South African optometrist who got tired of asking the same questions while working at a dry eye clinic

DryCheck was designed and built by Kevin, an optometrist in South Africa, after noticing that the first five to ten minutes of almost every dry eye consultation was spent gathering information that patients could just as easily provide in the comfort of their own home.

After questionnaire completion and submission, this data is forwarded to the optometrist who will be examining the patient. Should the optometrist note that the DECI score may be indicative of a dedicated dry eye examination, they can flag this patient via the programme — which will notify reception staff to schedule a dedicated dry eye appointment.

The patient will be booked on the system, and if they have installed the patient app, they will receive a notification regarding this appointment the day before.
